CNC Dust Extraction and Table Saw Dust Collection for Precision Woodworking

CNC routers, table saws, and wood planers generate a volume and fineness of timber dust that general workshop extraction systems are not designed to handle. A correctly specified CNC dust collection system or table saw dust collection set up needs to be sized for the actual air volume the machinery produces, not the minimum the machine manufacturer specifies.

Why precision woodworking extraction is a category of its own

A CNC router fitted with a 200-250mm extraction point needs to move 4,000-6,000m3 of air per hour at 30-35m/sec. In many workshops that is more extraction capacity than every other machine on the floor combined. Table saws and panel saws cuting MDF and engineered board generate an equally fine particulate that migrates across the workshop if the extraction system is not matched to the cut volume.

MDF dust in particular is a respiratory hazard. Any operation generating wood dust has an obligation to the health of their workers and to control wood dust exposure. Getting the dust collector for your CNC machine or table saw right is not a discretionary decision.

The filter problem that comes with the machine

Basic filters are commonly bundled with new CNC router purchases as an incentive. In practice they are undersized for the dust volumes a CNC produces. Boards come off the bed still coated in the final dust, cleaned with compressed air that puts the particulate straight back into the air your team is breathing.

The same issue affects table saw dust extraction and panel saw dust extraction setups that have not been sized for th4 actual cut throughput. An undersized system does not just creata dirty workshop. It creates a health risk and drives up your cleaning and other related costs.
